Her footsteps echoed to the beat of the song, sneakers tapping against pavement.

We watch the season pull up its own stakes
And catch the last weekend of the last week...

She looked up, the late-night fog wrapping itself around one of the yellowing, familiar streetlamps. It's circle of light on the ground was chilling, her breath glimmering in the glow.

Before the gold and the glimmer have been replaced,
Another sun soaked season fades away...

The shaded street post stood out like a neon sign. Dark green rectangles with crisp white lettering, on a tall metal pole. The mark of where Winchester Avenue met with Smithson Lane.

You have stolen my heart...

The silence rang sharp in her ears, echoes of crashes, screaming. A soft voice almost breaking, saying "I love you, I always will, so much..." Remembering the gentle touch of a much-stronger hand.

Invitation only, grand farewells
Crash the best one, of the best ones
Clear liquor and cloudy eyed, too early to say goodnight...

She leaned against the cold metal of the signpost, tears starting to run down her cheeks.

You have stolen my heart...

Wondering if it will ever stop. If it ever gets better. If she can make it through this time. She slid down the post to her knees, shuddering violently. The empty sound of her sobs echoed coldly between abandoned houses, silenced as she curled upon herself, forehead against the freezing pavement.

And from the ballroom floor we are in celebration
One good stretch before our hibernation
Our dreams assured and we all, will sleep well...

Murmured whispers and half-formed phrases tumbled from her lips. Wishes and dreams that are far to late to be granted. Curses that never reach the wind's ears as they dissolve into broken cries.

You have stolen
You have stolen my heart...

A careful hand rested on her back and she looked up to see her brother crouching next to her, concern etched into his face as he tugged his scarf down a bit. "Let's go."

I watch you spin around in your highest heels
You are the best one, of the best ones
We all look like we feel...

Shakily she grabs his hand and lets him pull her up. Leaning heavily on him they make their way back home again, down the night-quiet street.

You have stolen my
You have stolen my
You have stolen my heart.
So...my fluff and cute mood dissolved into an emo and depressing one. Though I was still listening to Dashboard Confessional so...this songfic came out.

The "brother" figure is Chance, by the way.
